Job Description

Carollo Engineers is a nationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Coral Springs, FL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads engineers in the production of contract documents including plans and specifications

  • Collaborates effectively with engineers in different Carollo offices

  • Expert in short circuit, protective device and coordination studies

  • Expert in development of One-Line diagrams and Wiring Control schematics, load and voltage drop calculations

  • Interfaces and coordinates the electrical design with electrical utilities, project team and client

  • Mentors and trains staff-level electrical engineers

  • Prepares technical memorandums and reports

  • Prepares design fee estimates

  • Manages the electrical and CAD team for small to large sized projects for water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Delegates tasks to others and follows ups on completion and quality of work

  • Performs discipline percent complete estimates, staffing estimates, and tracks budget spent on projects.

  • Participates in continuing editing and development of electrical master specifications

  • Prioritizes and balances competing project demands and conflicting project requirements

  • Identifies and consults with specialists on solutions to unusual, difficult, or complex tasks

  • Effectively participates in client contacts and business development efforts

  • Identifies alternatives, evaluates each, and determines appropriate actions to move forward

  • Makes solid and implementable decisions in a timely manner

  • Reduces complex aspects of electrical engineering to terms understandable to others

  • Attends to details in preparation or review of calculations, drawings, and specifications

  • Monitors scope, schedule, and budget and controls the work to the project plan

  • Understands, implements, and enforces company and client technical standards on projects

  • Travels for site visits and project meetings as required

  • Makes site visits to observe construction, start-up and operational activities, condition assessments, collect field information, utility and AHJ meetings, as well as project design meetings with the client

Required Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, and NFPA 820 standards

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70

  • Extensive knowledge of hazardous/classified area design, fire detection, and protection system design

  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, control strategies, and wiring control schematics

  • Proficient working with multi-discipline engineering project teams, including a leadership role on electrical or instrumentation project teams, including staff that in remote offices

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision on small to large electrical power systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Understands projects at the conceptual level, and develops corresponding electrical engineering scope of work, budget and schedule

  • Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine or moderately complex tasks

  • Ability to simultaneously think beyond past approaches and propose practical approaches to electrical design and construction

  • Listens and understands the concerns and needs of other project team members

  • Ability to behave calmly and effectively in situations involving pressure, conflict and uncertainty

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in speech, writing, and contract documents

  • Presents communications in an organized fashion and with appropriate level of detail

  • Positively influences both peers and subordinates to move toward overall project goals

  • Actively looks ahead to plan for and respond to project challenges

  • Seeks long term benefits to the overall project when determining electrical design approach

  • Sensitive to political issues and client preferences in determining electrical engineering approach

  • Aware of the "business" of electrical engineering as well as the technical design issues

  • Proficient in public speaking roles

  • Proficient in MS Word, Access, and Excel

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 10 years experience in the design of industrial power and control systems

  • Course work in power engineering

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer

  • Experience in the design of low voltage power distribution systems, industrial controls and lighting systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering - Power Specialty
